The Doctoral Programme in Disciplines Related to Management includes the following specializations: Operations Research & Systems Analysis, Regional Development, and Sociology.

Ans.  No, there isn’t a tuition fee for Ph.D. students. Instead, they receive a stipend of INR 42,000 per month to cover their monthly expenses. This is subject to satisfactory progress in the program.

Ques. What are the financial aid offered to PhD candidates in IIM Bangalore? 

  • Startup grant (in the 1st year) of INR 75,000 to meet expenses on purchasing hardware, software, etc.

Which is best -MBA in finance from ISB Hyderabad or top IIMS A/B/C?

ISB Hyderabad is known for its lack of specialization in Finance. It’s a common understanding now that even if one is preferring ISB Hyderabad for admission, they know that they should go for anything but Finance. Studying some aspects will give you a deeper insight as to why MBA in Finance from ISB Hyderabad is not recommended.

Faculty: Although the visiting faculty is quite decent, it’s the domestic faculty that has ruined the culture at ISB. They are arrogant, pathetic, and extremely incapable. They insult the students regularly and disturb student-teacher relations.

Placements: The roles offered in Finance were below average like Operations, Sales, and BD roles. Such roles were offered in abundance by the banks or start-ups. However, the superior roles like IB/PE/VC/M&A/FP&A/Equity Research/Credit Rating/Asset Management/TAS were offered scarcely. For instance 

  • only 10 FP and A roles were allotted that too only to CAs
  • Only one Investment banking role was offered by Barclays
  • Only 5 PE/bc roles were offered and there was a strong preference for a prior IB/PE/VC experience and IIT undergraduate background.
  • One M and A role was offered only
  • 4 Asset Management and zero Equity Research and Credit Rating roles were offered.

So the best roles were offered limitedly while the batch size stood at 900. Most students ended up with unsatisfactory placements. Now you can decide whether or not to join if you are confident to face the placement scenario.

What are the best courses to take in IIM Bangalore?

IIM Bangalore offers a variety of courses to cater to the needs of all its students. 

The ones I found most useful are-

  • Consumer Behaviour by Prof. S. Ramesh Kumar- This is the best course according to me, irrespective of the subjects of your interest. This topic is important for every business in the world.
  • Brand Management by Prof. YLR Moorthy
  • General Commercial Knowledge by Prof. Shankar Subramoney- This course is all about the most essential laws and contractual agreements.

Apart from this, here are some professors whose style of teaching and depth of knowledge is unparalleled-

  • Prof. Dinesh Kumar
  • Prof. Anshuman Tripathy
  • HR by Prof. Vasanthi
  • Prof. Mulky

Both ISB’s CBA and IIM Bangalore’s BAI are vastly different from one another. The following are some of the advantages and disadvantages of both. CBA at ISB:

  • Global Faculty and a very good campus are available to CBA students for the entire year, just like PGP students.
  • Very good networking opportunity with 100+ batch as you live on campus with them sharing food, time, and fun.
  • As the 5th batch of CBA graduates, the alumni base is strong.
  • Except for tutorials, the teaching method is primarily offline.
  • Prof Shailesh, Prof Sarang Deo, Prof Arun, and Prof Sudhir Voleti are some of the best faculty in the market.
  • ISB Brand Value because ISB promotes this course as a full-time option. 
  • One of the main factors is the high cost.
  • They should raise prices slightly and offer more career opportunities.

IIM B or L:

  • Global Faculty and Excellent Peers
  • IIM Brand Worth.
  • More suitable for working people is the online method.
  • In comparison to ISB, the fees are minor.
  • You are not permitted to stay on campus, which limits your opportunities to network with your peers.
  • Although IIM promotes this as an executive course, it is more appropriate to take it offline because concepts are difficult to grasp online.

Is it worth doing an E MBA from IIM Bangalore? I work as SSE. I make around 50 lakhs per annum, age 32 and I have a B Com.

If you measure the worth of a degree by its salary, you will never be satisfied, and I recommend that you do not pursue an MBA. Money is only one of many factors to consider before beginning an MBA program. The salary you have is something that most people do not get even after an MBA/Executive MBA; average salary packages range between Rs. 22 and Rs. 25 lakhs. You are already earning twice as much.

If you want to advance your knowledge of business/strategy/finance/organizational behavior and advance to a higher position where you can have a significant impact, an MBA is unquestionably a good option. However, there is no guarantee that you will earn more than 50 lakhs after completing your EMBA. Go for it if you want to learn and are willing to take a pay cut after your MBA. Don't do it if you're only in it for the money. You could invest in the stock market and watch your money double over time. MBA does not magically transform 50 lakhs into 1 crore.

Curriculum & Coursework

Our programs are full-time degree programs which officially begin in August. Students are expected to complete their program in five years. Typically, the first two years are spent on coursework, at the end of which students take a field exam, and then another three years on dissertation research and writing.

The Marketing program draws on computer science, economics, behavioral science, and psychological methods to focus on marketing problems faced by the firm and its management. Through a combination of discipline- and field-based methods, the curriculum enables students to master concepts and research skills directly relevant to business problems. Candidates must come to understand the point of view of practicing managers and be able to bring theory and careful research to bear in illuminating important business problems.

The program requires a minimum of 13 semester-long doctoral courses. Students in the Marketing program are required to complete a year-long discipline sequence typically in microeconomics or psychology. They also complete courses in the areas of machine learning, computer science, statistics, research methods, academic field seminars, and two MBA elective curriculum courses. In addition to HBS courses, students often take courses at other Harvard Schools and MIT.

Research & Dissertation

Students in Marketing begin research in their first year typically by working with a faculty member. By their third and fourth years, most students are launched on a solid research and publication stream. The dissertation may take the form of three publishable papers or one longer dissertation.

Recent examples of doctoral thesis research include: The effects of brand extensions on the value of parent brands; Multi-method examination of the consumption of “knockoffs” of high status brands, and the counter-intuitive positive outcomes for consumer-brand relationships; Competitive analysis of pricing and quality decisions in industries with strictly complimentary products; The psychological effects of pricing, and how these affect consumers and firms; and "Choice amnesia," the motivated forgetting of difficult decisions.

Navya Naveli Nanda, Amitabh Bachchan's granddaughter, has joined the premier Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in Ahmedabad for a postgraduate MBA programme for the next two years. However, soon after her social media announcement on Sunday night, critics of the star grandkid claimed that her course isn't even a “real MBA". Several users even wondered if Nanda got admission in the institute through a "quota".

Navya Nanda, 26, will pursue a Blended Post Graduate Programme (BPGP) at IIM Ahmedabad from 2024 to 2026.

An IIM Ahmedabad professor took to X on Monday to comment on the high-profile student and her admission.

"She got solid CV btw (by the way). You don't necessarily need CAT. Irrespective, hats off to everyone for being courageous enough to sign up for rigorous program. PS: Just like other students, looking forward to her posts cribbing abt hard life at IIM-A," said Promila Agarwal, an associate professor at IIM-A and an active X user.

Navya Nanda , daughter of Shweta Bachchan and Nikhil Nanda, described getting selected for the course as a dream-come-true moment.

“Dreams do come true! The next 2 years... with the best people and faculty. Blended Post Graduate Programme (BPGP) Class of 2026,” she wrote on Instagram.

The first photo she shared showed her dressed in a black suit. She also posted images of the lush green campus and the friends she seemed to have met there. Navya also posted a picture of herself cutting a cake on Instagram Stories, praising her teacher Prasad for assisting her in cracking the CAT/IAT admission examinations.

IIM Ahmedabad introduced the Blended Post Graduate Programme (BPGP), an online MBA designed for professionals and business owners who wish to continue their career alongside academia. The duration of the BPGP MBA program is two years.

The BPGP MBA is a hybrid program that combines modules taught on campus with live online instruction. This means that while the course will be mostly online, a small number of selected students are expected to attend specific courses on the IIMA campus.

The program's objective is to give employed managers managing capabilities.

Eligibility Criteria Applications for the program are open to working professionals and entrepreneurs with at least three years of full-time work experience. They must be at least 24 years old and have completed a bachelor's degree in any field, as well as a CA, CS, ICWA, or equivalent.

Screening Process

Selection is based on an Online IIMA Admission Test (IAT) specifically tailored for the Online MBA course OR a valid CAT score from examinations performed within the last five years OR a legitimate GMAT/GRE score, according to the IIMA website. Personal interviews with the shortlisted candidates are used for the final selection process.

Fees There is a programme fee of INR 20,00,000 (₹20 lakh). The price of travel and lodging for campus modules is not included in this.

Application Fees A non-refundable application fee of ₹2,000 (for applicants utilising CAT, GMAT, or GRE scores) or ₹3,000 (for IAT applicants) must also be paid.

Regular Ph.D. Programme - Eligibility Criteria

Course content.

Candidates must possess-

A master’s degree or Two-year Post Graduate Diploma (obtained after completing a bachelor's degree with 55% marks or equivalent) or a 5-year Integrated master’s degree (obtained after completing higher secondary school in the 10+2 pattern) in any field with 55% marks or equivalent.

Professional qualification - CA, CS, CMA (with a minimum of 50% marks) in addition to a bachelor's degree (with at least 55% marks).

A four-year / eight-semester bachelor’s degree with a minimum CGPA of 6.5/10 or comparable grades.

Note that the Bachelor's/ Master's degree or equivalent qualification should be from any of the Universities incorporated by an act of the central or state legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University under section 3 of UGC Act, 1956; or be recognized by the Ministry of Education, Government of India; or possess an equivalent qualification from an institution approved by AICTE.

Candidates in their last year of a Master's/ bachelor’s programme that would qualify them to apply may also apply. Such candidates, if selected, will only be allowed to join the programme provisionally if they submit a certificate latest by May 31, of the year of admission from the Principal/Head of the Department/Registrar or Director of the university/institute (issued on or before May 31, of the year of admission) stating that they have appeared for the examinations (including practical examinations) in all the subjects required for obtaining the Master's/Bachelor’s degree/equivalent qualification. Their admission will be confirmed when they submit mark sheets and a certificate of having completed the Master's/bachelor’s degree/equivalent qualification referred in the certificate issued by the Principal/Registrar of their college/institution. The deadline for submitting Marksheet and the Certificate is December 31, of the year of admission.

Please note that those candidates who have applied based on their master's degree will have to meet the 55% marks stipulation, and those who have applied based on their bachelor's degree will have to meet the 6.5 CGPA (or equivalent) marks stipulation. Non-fulfillment of these conditions will automatically result in the cancellation of the provisional admission.

Reservation: A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) as per GoI rules.

Title: THE PLATFORMISATION OF CONSUMER CREATIVITY AND THE JOURNEY TO CREATIVE PROFESSIONALIZATION

This dissertation explores the platformisation of consumer creativity and its professionalization. Drawing on theories of marketplace exchange, consumer creativity, and platformisation, I examine how consumers gather on digital platforms to exchange creative content, co-create, and build digitally mediated careers, transitioning into professionals. This investigation is presented in three essays: two empirical and one conceptual, utilizing a qualitative methodology comprised of netnography, narrative interviews, and guided introspections.

In Essay 1, I introduce the concept of co-creative gift systems to explain how consumers and creators gather on digital platforms and co-create a creative digital gift (i.e., a novel). I focus on Wattpad, a platform for hobbyist writers, where interactions among givers and recipients, specifically writers and readers, influence the development of the digital gift through editorial support, narrative co-creation, and independent reviews. 

In Essay 2, I explore the longitudinal experience of 17 consumers aspiring to become professional writers. This study introduces a platform-enabled marketization process of consumer creativity, illustrating how consumers gradually transition from hobbyist writers to professionals. They utilize digital platforms to orient themselves, learn, seek support, and manage their digital brands. I show how this transition aligns with an evolution in their consumer creativity, moving through four phases: instinctive, rookie, constrained, and marketoriented consumer creativity.

Lastly, Essay 3 conceptualizes the platformisation of creativity by examining how creators generate content on digital platforms. It introduces a typology that highlights the democratizing potential of digital platforms and the ways they provide creators with tools to sustain their professional careers over time.

IIM Udaipur - Best MBA colleges in india

The marketing area in IIMU is one of India's most diverse and research-active departments and was the first area to offer a PhD Program at IIMU in 2016. The Marketing PhD program at IIMU offers students the chance to pursue their doctoral studies in Consumer Behaviour, Marketing Strategy and Consumer Culture Theory. By providing rigorous training in theories from the fields of psychology, economics, sociology, anthropology and strategy, the program grooms students to develop a nuanced understanding of the micro, meso and macro aspects of consumption, markets, and brands. By offering several marketing-specific core courses and research methods courses—the students gain expertise on a wide array of quantitative and qualitative methods including experiment methods, qualitative research methods, cultural analysis, and advanced quantitative methods (analytics).

The faculty work closely with PhD students and collaborate with scholars from other leading business schools globally. The faculty’s areas of expertise include Consumer Behavior, Cultural Consumption, Firm and Market Behavior and Marketing Effectiveness with substantive topics such as social entrepreneurship, social media marketing, branding, language, cross-cultural psychology, digital technology, health care, compensatory consumption, sustainable consumption, etc.

Marketing faculty have published in journals of the highest international repute such as Journal of Consumer Research, Journal of Consumer Psychology, Journal of Public Policy and Marketing, Journal of Business Research, and Consumption Markets & Culture . Additionally, the Marketing area faculty and PhD students frequently present their work at the top international marketing and consumer research conferences, including the annual conferences of: American Marketing Association (AMA), Association for Consumer Research (ACR), Society for Consumer Psychology (SCP), European Marketing Academy (EMAC), Consumer Culture Theory Consortium (CCTC), Gender, Markets, and Consumer (GENMAC), and North American Society for Marketing Education in India (NASMEI). This program has visits from many senior professors and researchers from leading business schools globally, who present research seminars and provide research feedback to the faculty and Ph.D. students.

Research Centers

The Marketing Area leads two research centers which encourage academia-industry collaboration for cutting edge research. PhD students are encouraged to engage with the centres to enhance their research experience.

  • The Consumer Culture Lab (CCL) works on research on consumer culture in India. Further, we are setting up a one-of-its-kind Behavioral Lab (with neuroscience capabilities) in Jaipur in collaboration with the Government of Rajasthan.
  • The Center for Healthcare specializes in research at the intersection of healthcare and marketing.

Candidates are eligible to apply for the PhD program if they fulfil the following criteria:

A Master’s Degree in any discipline, with at least 60 percent marks, AND a Bachelor’s degree/equivalent qualification with at least 50 percent marks (minimum three years of bachelor’s level education after the completion of higher secondary schooling).

A professional qualification (completed) such as CA (ICAI), ICWA, CS with a Bachelor's degree with at least 60 percent marks.

A 4-year/8-semester Bachelor's degree with equivalent of 6.5 CGPA OR 60 percent marks (whichever is higher).

These criteria are consistent with the Ministry of Education regarding "Minimum Standards for Ph.D. admission in IIMs" as of December 27, 2018, AND the minimum eligibility criteria for applying for the role of Assistant Professor at IIMs post PhD.

The Master's degree or equivalent qualification/Bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification required for IIM PhD eligibility should be: (a) from any of the Universities incorporated by an act of the central or state legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University under section 3 of UGC Act, 1956; or (b) recognized by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India or (c) possess an equivalent qualification from an institution approved by AICTE. The Bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification obtained by the candidate must entail a minimum of three years of education after completing Higher Secondary schooling (10+2) or equivalent.

Final year candidates who have not yet completed their respective degrees (Bachelor's or Master's) by the date application is due are eligible to apply for IIM PhD program at IIM Udaipur and can receive provisional acceptance. According to IIM PhD criteria, with their initial application, they must submit a bonafide certificate (on the day of registration) signed by the head of their current department/institution indicating that they have completed all examinations/submissions required for obtaining the degree. No later than December 30th, of the year of application, they must submit the final mark sheets/certificates related to the completion of the degree indicating the minimum cut-off (equivalent of 6.5 CGPA OR 60 percent marks, whichever is higher) has been met.

Valid CAT/GMAT/GRE/NET-JRF (to be mentioned in application, if applicable/qualified in Economics/ Psychology/ Sociology/ Anthropology/ Management). Scores are mandatory for the candidates applying for Marketing Area.

Please note that a candidate can apply to only one area. In the case where candidates submit multiple applications in more than one area, the application received on the latest date will be considered and the previous application/applications will be summarily rejected.

Statement of Purpose (SOP) Guidelines for Marketing Area:

Your statement of purpose (SOP) for applying to the PhD program in Marketing area at IIMU must include answers to the following three questions:

  • What is your motivation to pursue PhD? Why a PhD from IIM Udaipur specifically?
  • What is your career plan post PhD?
  • Are there any specific research topics (within the broad domain of Marketing) that you are interested in? What are these topics, and how has your interest developed in these specific topics?

Don’t just write your SOP in a simple question-answer format. Rather, share with us a compelling narrative (in the form of a long, coherent essay), clearly explaining your purpose for applying for a PhD in Marketing at IIMU.

Scanned copies of all academic mark sheets, certificates, qualifying examination score cards, category certificates, and research proposals must be uploaded, along with the online application form.

There shall be 4 rounds in this year’s selection process for PhD applicants in Marketing area:

Round 1: Screening of Applications

The Marketing area faculty will screen the submitted application packets by the candidates, and only shortlisted candidates will be invited to participate in Round 2.

Round 2: Written Analysis

The candidates will be given a simple conceptual model/framework to analyze and critique. The critiques submitted by the candidates will be evaluated on:

  • Depth of analysis
  • Writing skills

Round 3: Virtual Personal Interviews

Candidates shortlisted based on their performance in round 2 will be invited for a virtual interview with a panel of Marketing area faculty (round 3).

Round 4: Physical Personal Interviews

Selected candidates, those who are shortlisted based on performance in round 3, will be invited physically to IIMU campus for a final interview with the entire Marketing area faculty group (round 4).

In both the interview rounds, the candidates will be evaluated on their research aptitude, domain knowledge, motivation and preparedness for the PhD program, long-term career plans, and communication skills.

All About the Blended Post Graduate Programme

The Blended Post Graduate Programme is an online MBA program launched by IIM Ahmedabad in January 2024. It is designed for working professionals and entrepreneurs. The online MBA program is a blended (hybrid) model that combines on-campus, in-person sessions with live interactive online sessions. The program is meant for a seasoned cohort of participants with a minimum of three years of work experience. This program offers a flexible learning experience. While primarily delivered online in real-time, the program includes five on-campus modules to enhance the learning experience.

BPGP: Educational Qualifications

  • Candidates must have a minimum of three years of full-time work experience
  • Applicants must hold a bachelor's degree or equivalent to apply to the program
  • Admissions will be based on an admission test (IIMA Admission Test (IAT) / CAT / GMAT / GRE) and a personal interview

BPGP: Course Duration

This is a two-year program.

Students are required to pay a non-refundable application fee. The total fee is INR 20,00,000.
