* Scheduling conflict? No worries. You’ll have access to a recording of the sessions.
* Prefer 1:1 tutoring? Work with one of our expert tutors. Contact us here .
Here’s a sampling of what students will learn:
1. A draft of the common app personal statement that he/she will be proud of*
2. A plan for how to tackle the most common supplemental essay prompts
3. A rewarding and transformative experience
*Due to the classroom nature of the workshop (vs private 1:1 tutoring), we lean on peer review and generalized instruction from the teacher to guide edits. Some students will come out of the class with a draft that is 100% completed or nearly completed. Other students, especially those who struggle to independently incorporate the guidance and feedback in class, will benefit from more individualized support. Students must participate and put in the work to get the most value out of this class. We will assign homework and drafts/edits to be completed between sessions. Expect between 2 to 6 hrs of homework per week. --> VIEW SCHEDULE & ENROLL (SUMMER 2024)
After Brown, Kristian embarked on a 20+ year career as a high school English teacher.
When not teaching students how to write, he teaches OTHER teachers how to teach writing as a Lead Instructor for the National Writing Project.
Thank you, Mr. Kuhn, for being one of the most profound influences in both my educational, and personal lives.
Using the technique, I have aced writing assignments in college without difficulty and am confident in writing applications and cover letters as I enter the adult world.
While writing has always been a passion of mine, it was not until I took Mr. Kuhn’s class that I feel I truly learned how to compose a thoughtful and well-rounded piece…
I’m a grizzled veteran of 27 years and have taken away so much from this course [Teacher feedback]
Y’all: if you’re on the fence about this at all, TAKE THE PLUNGE. Kristian’s classes have helped me refine my writing instruction and I will never go back! [Teacher feedback]
Over the course of 4 weeks (8 classes/ 12 hours), students will cover all of the following:
✔ Video Library — Enrolled students will have access to our college essay video tutorials.
✔ Supplemental Essay Strategies — In addition to helping students craft personal statements, we’ll also offer strategic guidance about how to approach supplemental essays.
✔ Free Bonus Hour — Enrolled students who sign up for private 1:1 tutoring will receive a free bonus hour.
✔ Waitlist Priority — Our essay consultants often get booked up and have waitlists. Workshop students will be given priority on these waitlists.
We’re confident yours will too..
Before attending this workshop, I didn’t really know what I should write about and had trouble getting started, but I left the workshop with a clear idea and draft of what I wanted to say. Personally, the free writing, the in-depth review of an essay, and exercises that involved brainstorming facts about myself were the most helpful in identifying the specific moments and lessons I wanted to capture in my essay. Working with the instructors was stress-free because they are easily approachable and were genuinely interested in helping me tell my story to an admissions officer. They were honest and kind in their feedback and I placed a lot of confidence in their opinions, and I would definitely recommend working with them for help with your essay and all other steps in the college application process.
The workshop gave me many resources that helped with structuring an essay and some exercises which really helped with finding good ideas to write about.
It makes the essay much less intimidating, more like writing a particularly expressive story than a school essay. Coming from someone who does not much like writing this made writing the piece kind of fun.
Although no kid wants to do “homework” in the summer it was quite reasonable and VERY helpful to keep me on track.
Before this workshop, I really didn’t have any approach to the essay. I mostly was just writing haphazardly and not following a set structure. I had no guidance. After attending this workshop, my approach completely changed. I now had a set of guidelines and a path as to how to properly compose my college essay to the best it could be.
We have near-perfect ratings, 50,000+ hrs of 1:1 & classroom teaching experience, and are a trusted resource with a strong reputation.
Over 75% of our families are referrals or repeat customers.
Our co-founders, Kevin and Greg, are brothers and Princeton University graduates who work closely with our instructors.
To work with our top counselors will cost ~$4,000 for the equivalent amount of class time.
Instead, our workshop is only $495.
Our goal is for you to complete the college essay in 4 weeks.
Students who struggle with motivation or working independently would likely be better off working 1:1 with one of our expert consultants – Please contact us to confirm availability. We’ll then give you a ring to learn more about your student, see if we’re a good fit, and discuss next steps.

How to write an unforgettable college essay that reflects you
In this online workshop, high school students will practice and develop the skill of writing a college application essay. Students will brainstorm, draft, and revise a full-length college application essay by the conclusion of the workshop. Provided students attend all four sessions and complete the 1-2 hours of homework assigned each week, students can expect to leave the workshop with an essay that is ready or near-ready for submission. Together, we will investigate the central questions of application writing, including:
This workshop is for high school students at the beginning of their application writing process; all writers will start their essays from scratch. Our virtual classroom will function as a collaborative workshop, as well as an instructional space. Students will routinely read and analyze each other's work, as well as personal essays by published authors. Together, we will grow comfortable with: (1) the conventions of application writing, (2) vulnerably sharing our stories, and (3) a rigorous revision process involving peer review and instructor feedback. In order to create an open online writing community within the workshop, students will be asked to turn their Zoom cameras on.
Students will have the opportunity to join a generative collective of writers, to discuss their hopes and anxieties regarding the application process, and to connect firsthand with the UMass Amherst university level writing community. We will approach application writing both practically, and creatively: all students will leave with an essay they feel confident about, and will have also had the opportunity to challenge and hone their skills within the expansive personal writing genre.
Enrollment for this workshop is limited to give time for personalized attention. Questions? Email [email protected].
Workshop Format and Schedule

Moscow is the capital and largest city of Russia. It is the fourth largest city in the world, and is the first in size among all European cities.
Moscow was founded in 1147 by Yuri Dolgoruki, a prince of the region. The town lay on important land and water trade routes, and it grew and prospered. During the 1200’s, Tartar invaders from Asia conquered Moscow and other Russian lands.
Moscow grew rapidly during the 1600’s. The czars built palaces in the Kremlin, and nobles built mansions. New churches and monasteries arose, and industries developed. In 1703, Peter the Great began building a new capital at St. Petersburg. But Moscow remained an important center of culture, industry, and trade. In the fall of 1812, invading French Troops under Napoleon I entered Moscow without a struggle. Most of the people had left the city. Soon afterwards, a fire destroyed most of Moscow . After 35 days, the French troops left the city and began a retreat through the snow and cold.
In the 1917 revolution, the government fell to the Bolsheviks. They moved back to Moscow in 1918 capital.
Moscow lies in the north-central part of the European section of Russia. The Moscow River flows through the city. Moscow is built in the shape of a wheel. At the center of the wheel stands the Kremlin. This old fortress is the center of the Russian government. Inside its walls are beautiful cathedrals and palaces, as well as government buildings. Some of them date from the 1400’s.
Red Square lies just outside the Kremlin wall. It took its name in Russian from an old word meaning both beautiful and red. There, huge military parades celebrate special occasions. Thousands of people line up daily at the Lenin Mausoleum to view the preserved body of Lenin.
Opposite the Kremlin on Red Square is GUM, the largest department store. Saint Basil’s Church is also on Red Square. This 400-year-old building is part of the State Historical Museum. The Russia Hotel, one of the world’s largest hotels, faces the Kremlin near Red Square.
Muscovites are proud of their subway system, called the Metro. The city has more than 70 subway stations, which look like palace halls and are the fanciest in the world.
Muscovites have many facilities for recreation. Luzhniki, a huge sports area, includes Lenin Stadium, which can seat about 103,000 persons. Every year, about 7 million people go to Gorki Park, Moscow’s most popular amusement center.
The Bolshoi Theatre presents ballets that many people consider Russia’s highest artistic achievement. Young dancers are trained at the Bolshoi Theatre’s school. The nation’s largest symphony orchestra performs at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory. In addition, Moscow has a number of famous drama theatres, such as the Maly and Moscow Art theatres.
The city has about 150 museums and art galleries. Dazzling treasures that belonged to the czars are displayed in the Armory Museum in the Kremlin.
Moscow State University is the largest university in the country. It was established in 1755, and has more than 30,000 students. Moscow has more than a thousand elementary schools and high schools, and over 80 specialized institutes.
About 3,000 main and branch libraries operate throughout Moscow. The Lenin State Library, the largest library in Russia , has one of the largest collections of books and manuscripts in the world.
Moscow is also the most important industrial city in Russia. Its factories produce a wide variety of products, but chiefly automobiles, buses, and trucks. Other important products include chemical, electrical machinery, measuring instruments, steel, and textiles.
The city is the transportation center of Russia. Moscow has three major airports. The Moscow Canal links the city to the great Volga River.

Pro-Palestinian protesters won council elections, and have refused to fund campus groups, like the men’s Ultimate Frisbee team, unless their divestment demands are met.

Students were braced for a stalemate. There was an Ultimate Frisbee team without money to compete, an airport shuttle whose cost to students almost doubled without a campus subsidy, and a ballroom dance team unable to rent rehearsal space.
At the University of Michigan, many student activities are usually funded or subsidized by the Central Student Government, known as C.S.G., an elected undergraduate and graduate council that decides how to dole out roughly $1.3 million annually to about 400 groups.
But last spring, pro-Palestinian activists, running under the Shut It Down party, won control over the student government. They immediately moved to withhold funding for all activities, until the university committed to divest from companies that profit from Israel’s war in Gaza.
University regents, though, have consistently said that divestment is off the table . And as students returned to school, the campus seemed to be at a virtual standstill.
“It’s incredibly stressful,” said Nicolette Kleinhoffer, president of the ballroom dance team. The team relies on the student government for the majority of its funding, which covers competitions, a coach and rehearsal and performance space.
The student government takeover was a novel strategy for pro-Palestinian activists, who have battled Michigan’s administration as it dismantled encampments and disciplined protesters .
