Editing to give a canon appropriate unhinged review: Again, this was made for people who didn't read that manga. People got swept under the rug. Where's Antoine? Oh wait. He doesn't exist. Number 70? Never heard of them. These people don't exist anymore. Number 70 may not be important, but Antoine was. Do we need to see Veronica talk about her and Machina? In the words of Domi: "I don't want to hear my sister talk about her weird sex life." So no. But we need that moment for Antoine. It shows Domi's self esteem issues. And speaking of removing characters, what happened to Machina in Chloe's backstory? He was in a giant bear costume. It was a funny element in such a serious backstory. But what does Machina matter when Chloe and JJ have their backstory served to us like three day old leftovers with everything good picked off? Oh but thank goodness Astolfo got a backstory. AND THAT WASN'T EVEN BONES. They called in Jun to do it because they were screwing up her story so much. "Hello, Jun. We screwed up. Fix it for us, please?" Speaking of backstory, Luna. Who cares that they have no gender? Who cares that they only have their name because Vanitas gave it to them? Not Bones. In short: Non

season 2 case study of vanitas

I watched the second part of this series directly after the first, so a lot of the feelings I had initially were carried over. I felt the first half of this one did not fit with the initial plot establised in the first part/season. It was interesting, yes, but felt too long and disconnected, ignoring a lot of what was established in the first season. It was also broken up with many flash back episodes of characters that didn't necesarily add to the plot especially when they are repeated in other episodes. The second half fit much better and was more vital to the character's development and their journey and gave the season/part a bit of tention to build a decent conclusion. It also showed more of the bond that was forming between Vanitas and Noe, which was nice. In all honesty, the first half of season one and the second half of eason two would have made a more enjoyable single season, though it would have deviated quite a bit from the series which I feel would have angered many of the manga's fans but would have also opened the anime to more specials.

season 2 case study of vanitas

Usually I would write a more detailed review, but I'm too lazy and tired at the moment, though I may update this at another time.  I just finished Part II and it was pure gold ahhhh. I enjoyed this season immensely (a lot more than the first, and I loved the first, so this says a lot), can't wait for the next part. Great character development, insane backstories, a plot that reels you in to the point that most episodes feel like they are 5 min long instead of 20 something min. I especially like how Case Study of Vanitas combines dark, serious topics and emotional backstories with light-hearted humor, causing you to feel like you're dying inside one moment but then smiling and laughing the next. Few animes could ever do this to me so easily lol. Though the OP and ED songs were not as wonderful as S1's were, they were still great. I really enjoyed listening to them and the rest of the music in the series fit so well. Yuki Kajiura's compositions never cease to amaze.  I highly recommend the Case Study of Vanitas, folks, you will not be disappointed. And, no, I don't care whether or not it follows the manga or leaves out characters, I judge animes by their individual content and not by how well it copies the manga's source material. This applies to how I judge book to film/TV adaptations as well.  - Xen

The Case Study Of Vanitas Part 2 - What We Know So Far

Vanitas from The Case Study of Vanitas

On Aug. 6, the English-dubbed version of "The Case Study of Vanitas" arrived at Funimation's website , bringing the steampunk-styled supernatural mystery manga series to life for a whole new audience. The vampire -based anime, set in Paris of the 19th century, is very atmospheric, what with its airships, period clothing and blue-moon and crimson vampires. It starts with the young vampire Noé, who is asked by his teacher to go to Paris to look for the titular book. In an incident on the airship, he meets a girl named Amelia — who turns out to be a vampire named Florifel, who just needs her name returned to her — and blue-eyed Vanitas himself. Vanitas enlists his help in changing the "curse-bearing" vampires back to normal using the grimoire in question.

"The Case Study of Vanitas" has aired 12 episodes of its split-cour season, which is normal for anime shows — but now leaves fans to wonder when Part 2 will happen, and what will happen going forward, since the series hasn't exactly concluded its plot. If you're one of the fans anxiously awaiting news of the second part of the first season, here's what we know so far.

When is the release date for The Case Study of Vanitas Part 2?

Vanitas and Noe in The Case Study of Vanitas

The @vanitas_anime Twitter account announced on Sept. 17 that the second cour (or quarter of a year) of "The Case Study of Vanitas" is coming in January 2022. This is good news, as it means fans won't have too long to wait:  Anime News and Facts is reporting that the 12 episodes in the second part of the split-cour series will air between Jan. 8 and March 26, 2022. It should be noted that these dates refer to the Japanese release, not the English one.

However, English-speaking fans shouldn't experience too much of a delay. The initial Japanese run premiered on various channels starting July 2 ( via Anime News Network ), which means it was subtitled with the first episode dubbed by the time it released on Funimation a little over a month later. Comingsoon.com said that Funimation had released five dubbed episodes by September 17 (a paid subscription is required to access the dubbed versions of newer episodes).

Hopefully, that means U.S. fans will be streaming at least a subtitled second part of Season 1 by springtime.

Who are the characters in The Case Study of Vanitas Part 2?

Luca and Jeanne meet Noe and Vanitas

The main characters of the series include Noé Archiviste, played in the Japanese by Kaito Ishikawa, and Vanitas (not the original of the book), played by Natsuki Hanae. Supporting characters include Jeanne (Inori Minase), a vampire girl also called the "Hellfire Witch"; Luca (Shino Shimoji), a polite vampire boy ranking just below the queen, who is trying to save his brother; Dominique (Ai Kayano), the aristocratic daughter of the alien lord the Marquis de Sade; Veronica (Yoko Hikasa), Dominique's sister who hates humans; Ruthven (Toshiyuki Morikawa), Luca's uncle and the hero who brokered peace between humans and vampires.

Others include Dante (Taro Kuichi), Johann (Koji Yusa), and Richie (Riho Kuma), Vanitas' information brokers, and Noé's unnamed teacher (Akira Ishida), the one who sent him to find the book. Vampire Naenia (Kaori Nazuka), vampire hunter Laurent (Kengo Kawanishi), Holy Knight Olivier (Tomoaki Maeno) and Noé's first friend Louis de Sade (Miyuri Shimabukuru) also appear. There's also the cat, Murr (Miyu Komaki). Not all have survived Season 1, though, so they won't necessarily appear in Part 2.

The English dub cast of the series includes Stephen Fu as Noe, Zeo Robinson as Vanitas, Marianne Bray as Murr, Ian Sinclair as Dante, and Hayden Daviau as Amelia.

What is the plot of The Case Study of Vanitas Part 2?

The grimoire in The Case Study of Vanitas

As the first part of the first season ended, the Beast of Gévaudan has resurfaced, so Noé and Vanitas go to investigate sightings of it. The beast will likely figure largely in the events of the second part of the season, as will Vanitas' relationship with Noé. Viewers may also finally learn the intentions of the secret organization Charlatan because of the big reveal in the end-credits scene. As viewers know, Ruthven figures largely in the plotting that's been going on, and he has hypnotized Noé with Jeanne's unwitting help, which could all blow up in Part 2. Meanwhile, Roland is going through a crisis of faith because he has learned that not all vampires are bad, and the show will no doubt explore the ramifications of that.

"The Case Study of Vanitas" will feature 12 episodes in Season 1 Part 2, making up a total of 24 episodes in the first season. The anime has been rapidly catching up to the manga:  Monsters and Critics predicts that by the 24th episode, the anime will be up to Chapter 43 of the manga. The manga is expected to publish Chapter 61, which means season 2 might be a more difficult sell than the first.

The Winter 2022 Preview Guide The Case Study of Vanitas Part 2

How would you rate episode 13 of the case study of vanitas (tv 2) community score: 4.4, what is this.

season 2 case study of vanitas

It's 19th-century Paris, and young vampire Noé hunts for the Book of Vanitas. Attacked by a vampire driven insane, a human doctor called Vanitas tempts Noé with a mad crusade to “cure” the entire vampire race. While allying with him may be dangerous, news reaches Vanitas that the Beast of Gévaudan has returned, and Noé is being brought along to investigate this phantom from the past.

The Case Study of Vanitas is based on Jun Mochizuki 's manga and streams on Crunchyroll on Fridays.

How was the first episode?

season 2 case study of vanitas

There really was a Beast of Gévaudan in the eighteenth century, and it really was described as Vanitas relates in this episode. As an added bonus, the Beast really was hunted by Louis XV's chief musketeer Antoine and has at least two Jeannes associated with it: its first victim was named Jeanne, and the woman who first saw it – and was saved when the cattle she was tending ran it off – was named Marie- Jeanne. Those folkloric/historical details, the fact that I immediately knew our heroes had traveled back in time by the clothing of the musketeers, and the allusions to Little Red Riding Hood (which has a high number of French variants) all made this easily my favorite premiere this season, and that's even without counting the fact that I was already looking forward to The Case Study of Vanitas ' return.

Apart from the fact that this episode feels made for people with my exact confluence of interests, it also shows that the series has lost nothing in the break between seasons. It does pick up immediately after the end of the previous twelve episodes, so if your memory isn't at its finest, you may want to watch the recap episode that aired last week, because Noé and Vanitas (and Murr, of course) are immediately off to Gévaudan to look into the beast. Vanitas' bet that it's actually a vampire with a malnomen is on the money, but that doesn't mean that it'll be easy to fix the problem. What's more interesting is the way that Jeanne is related to the whole mess – we know that vampires are longer-lived than humans, but Jeanne has just admitted to being around in 1767, when the Beast last appeared. She stands to be Vanitas' greatest obstacle in dealing with the Beast, and that's the kind of relationship drama I'm ready for.

Visually and in terms of the previous season's character relationships, this remains right on track. The scene where Charlatan appears in the snowy forest of the past is excellently done in terms of Carnivalism, and the background, which looks like a bloody version of Van Gough's Starry Night, enhances the air of adjacent reality that is required of the Carnivalesque. Separating Noé and Vanitas right off the bat was a risk, but I think it's one that will pay off given where they were last season, and especially since Noé's been found by a mysterious man and his daughter/ward while Vanitas has lost his book. Given the nature of time travel, he could have lost it so that he can get it again for the first time, but we'll just have to wait and see. My only vague complaint is that the English and French titles don't match up – presumably the English matches the Japanese, but this episode is called “The Silver Forest” in French, not “Chance Encounter,” while next week's is “The Witch's Castle” rather than “The Young Man and the Witch.”

For the most part, that's neither here nor there. I'm just looking forward to diving back into this series, and it looks like it's not going to disappoint.

season 2 case study of vanitas

Vanitas has been gone for three slutty, slutty months, but everyone's favorite, wretched little doctor is back with the pack of maladjusted vampires who misguidedly find him alluring, and they're ready to warm the hearts of viewers through the chilly winter months. Season one of Vanitas could at times feel meandering or slow-going, choosing to zero in on character moments or dole out tidbits of intrigue rather than the action spectacle one would expect from its premise. But this second half starts off with as much action and mystery as one can reasonably fit into 20 minutes, and it's a blast all the way through.

We begin with Noé and Vanitas reaching Gévaudan, searching for the legendary beast named after the region, but instead of a simple monster hunt things quickly spiral into a wild whirlwind as new and old parties arrive. Then our cast is seemingly transported to the far past, Charlatan arrives to swirl up even more chaos, and by the end of the episode nearly everything has been turned upside down for our heroes, especially Vanitas and his ever-useful book. It's a really exciting return for the show, and while I was already happy to be back with this cast and world, it made me extra enthusiastic to get back into the fray.

It helps that the cast, who made the first season the delight it was, are still in prime form. Noé's bright-eyed earnestness clashes delightfully with Vanitas' sardonic cynicism, and their belligerent chemistry is as charming as ever. Rather than the blushy, confused mess from last season's finale, we get to see Jeanne in full battle mode against the beast and it's a treat. Newcomer Astolfo is an incredibly over-the-top antagonist, but that just makes it all the more funny to watch Vanitas troll the ever-loving hell out of him with the most shit-eating grin ever drawn. It's all familiar and delightful, helping to ground what might otherwise be a chaotic mess of a premiere, and is a great reminder of why I enjoyed this show to begin with.

So yeah, Vanitas is back in fine form and promises to deliver more beautifully rendered gothic melodrama. I doubt I have to tell anyone who liked the first season to get onboard, but if you've ended this preview season thinking Winter looks a little sparse, this may be the perfect time to sink your teeth into this show.

A surprise hit from the Summer 2021 season, The Case Study of Vanitas takes a unique spin on the concept of vampires. The story is told through the perspective of Noé Archiviste, who recounts why he had to kill his traveling partner and self-proclaimed savior of the vampires, Vanitas. Using a grimoire called the Book of Vanitas handed down by his former teacher, Vanitas uses this ancient tome to heal vampires of a blood-thirsty disease called malnomen. With  Season 2 of The Case Study of Vanitas just getting underway , here are the key points to  remember from Season 1 .

season 2 case study of vanitas

The legend of the Book of Vanitas and its former owner, Vanitas of the Blue Moon, have a horrible reputation for wanting to eradicate the vampire race. However, Noé realizes these rumors aren't true when he first encounters Vanitas while boarding an airship to Paris as he heals a curse-bearing vampire named Amelia. After realizing Vanitas is human and inherited the book from his teacher, the real Vanitas, Noé is visibly excited.

Vanitas asks to join him on his journey to save the vampire race, but Noé declines and then faints before he can leave. He wakes up in a cell next to Vanitas, discovering that Amelia had poisoned Noé. Shortly afterward, they are released and invited to meet Count Orlock, the Queen-appointed mediator between vampires and humans in Paris. He summons the two in order to prove the book's healing powers.

During their journey, the duo run into Luca Oriflamme and his protector Jeanne, the infamous vampire executioner known as the Hellfire Witch. After she admits defeat when Vanitas figures out her weakness is Luca himself, Vanitas kisses her instead of killing her. After Jeanne and Luca bashfully escape, they return to Count Orlock's office. Vanitas asks Amelia about seeing the Parade of Charlatan, entities that other curse-bearers describe seeing.

Amelia denies it, but Noé drinks her blood -- activating his power of being able to access people's memories -- and confirms she is lying. Dominique de Sade then enters the room, proclaiming she is Noé's fiancée and has heard everything. She insists Noé escort her to a masquerade ball, crossing the barrier that separates the human and vampire worlds with the goal of isolating Noé and Vanitas.

Dominique's sister Veronica tries to kill Vanitas and Noé at the ball, exclaiming that they used to book to spread the curse. She is quickly interrupted by the host of the party, Ruthven, who wants to take Noé and Vanitas under his wing. Noé faints and wakes up to find a visibly angry Vanitas at the bell tower. After a heated exchange, Noé vows to stay by Vanitas' side because he is intrigued by him and wants to see the outcome of his labor to save all vampires.

While reuniting with Ruthven, Vanitas asks to see the queen, stating she hasn't been out in public and wondering if she's even alive. Gravely insulted, Ruthven attacks Vanitas in a blind rage. Noé and Vanitas are sent back to the human world where the latter reveals he did all this to gather information about Luca, who had reacted differently than the other vampires when he made his outrageous statement.

After being kicked out of Orlock's office, Vanitas runs into his former partner Dante and tracks down a curse-bearer tied to the Church's anti-vampire unit, the Chasseurs. Vanitas and Noé go into the underground catacombs of Paris in order to find the Chasseurs and run into Roland, hellbent on saving the human Vanitas. Roland ambushes Noé upon realizing he is a vampire, but Vanitas and Noé escape using a flash bomb.

This is the visual poster of The Case Study of Vanitas.

Vanitas reveals his ulterior motive of finding Moreau, a madman who was kicked out of the Chasseurs for obsessive vampire research. Moreau conducted human experiments, and Vanitas was one of them. When Roland catches up again, Noé stages holding Vanitas hostage. In a twist of fate, Roland realizes Noé is different from other vampires and asks to be friends.

The team enters Moreau's lab as he reveals he wishes to become a vampire himself. A member of the Charlatan, Mosieur Spider, appears to tell Moreau to destroy his lab. The curse-bearer they were hunting appears and is revealed to be a shadow that devours all life forms in front of him. To defeat it, Noé and Vanitas jump into the shadow's mouth and use the book. Everyone escapes in time for the lab to explode.

After Jeanne realizes she's in love with Vanitas , Dante comes with news that the Beast of Gévaudan lives and they've found five bodies. Vanitas sets off to see if it's a curse bearer or not, but Noé is distracted by his strong desire to drink his partner's blood. Vanitas tells Noé that if he ever uses his powers to access his memory, he will kill him. Nonetheless, he agrees to let Noé taste his blood as long as he doesn't use his Archiviste powers on him. The season ends with a mysterious vampire being hugged by Naenia, stating that her time for vengeance is now.

Season 1 was packed full of action and rich worldbuilding, skillfully accented by beautiful animation. Will Season 2 be able to live up to the fantastic first impression? Being one of the most anticipated anime for the Winter 2022 season , fans are hopeful.  The Case Study of Vanitas airs every Saturday on Funimation and Crunchyroll.

Where is the best place to watch The Case Study of Vanitas Season 2 with English subtitles or in dub ? The second cour of the beloved shonen anime has earned its place amongst the winter 2022 season's most popular works.

Taking the story from where the first part left it off, Noé and Vanitas have travelled to Gédauvan to investigate disturbing sightings of a dangerous beast whom they believe to be a corrupted vampire they could heal. In their quest, they encounter new allies and enemies, while side characters we already know have also made an appearance.

Compared to the previous cour , The Case Study of Vanitas is now more widely available. Here's where you can catch up with the new episodes if you haven't already.

For the time being, The Case of Vanitas Season 2 is not available to watch on Netflix - but that's one of the few places that haven't acquired one of the most visually pleasing anime of the season.

Until recently it was the norm for Netflix to host completed anime shows only. Works such as Blue Period and Komi Can't Communicate changed that, but completed shows still remain more common for the popular streaming platform.

Yes. As was the case with the previous cour, The Case of Vanitas Part 2 is available on Hulu. It will be a while before you can watch the English dub of the newest episodes, but they are all available to stream with English subtitles.

A Hulu subscription starts at $6.99.

The first cour of The Case Study of Vanitas was not available on Crunchyroll , but this changed in winter 2022. Both the first and the second parts of the anime show are now available to stream on the anime platform.

If you are considering subscribing, a Crunchyroll account starts at $6.50 per month and there's a 14-day trial to help you decide if it's for you. Of course, you can also watch your favorite shows for free, you'll just have to wait an extra week for new anime episodes.

The Case Study of Vanitas is also available to stream on Funimation. For the time being, you can watch the new episodes with English subtitles. The first cour is already dubbed though, so we expect part 2 to follow soon.

As per the usual drill, new episodes are available immediately to premium users, and become free for everyone a week later, with ads. A Funimation subscription costs $5.99 per month, and, once again, you can also watch free with ads a week after an episode's original release.

When will The Case Study of Vanitas season 2 come out? Explained

One of the most highly-anticipated anime sequels currently lacking any release information at all is The Case Study of Vanitas season 2. With the first season having originally premiered in the Summer 2021 season, fans saw the entirety of the first season stretch into the Winter 2022 season as well.

The anime community, likewise, has been waiting for over a year now with no news on when The Case Study of Vanitas season 2 will be premiering. Unfortunately, it seems that they will have to wait for quite a long time before a second season for the series ever sees the light of day.

When will season 2 come out.

As of writing this article, there are currently no rumors, leaks, or news on when The Case Study of Vanitas season 2 will become available. For now, it seems that Studio Bones’ latest smash-hit anime premiere will be on the backburner for quite some time. While unfortunate to hear, there is a sensible reason why such a wait is a reality.

As an adaptation of a manga series, the anime needs to wait for more manga material to be released in order to remain a faithful adaptation. Considering that history has shown consistently that remakes will come for those series that decide to come up with their own ending, Studio Bones is likely just waiting for new source material. Fullmetal Alchemist and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood , as well as Hellsing and Hellsing Ultimate are examples.

That being said, there is simply not enough additional source material for Studio Bones to adapt to a full-fledged second season of the series. As of this article’s writing, The Case Study of Vanitas’ manga series has 10 total manga volumes released. The first season adapted 9 of these 10 volumes, essentially comprising all of the source material currently available to adapt.

While the manga series is thankfully still ongoing, the release rate is incredibly slow, with several months typically marking the distance between the release of individual chapters. This has a cascading effect on the manga volumes themselves, which can often see a gap of two years or more between releases.

Considering the current pace and how much material the first season adapted, there won’t be enough source material to create The Case Study of Vanitas season 2 until the end of 2024. Believing an anime production schedule would likely take at least 18 months beyond that point, fans sadly won’t be seeing the second season of the hit series until mid-2026 at the absolute earliest.

Follow along for more anime , manga, film, and live-action news as 2023 progresses.

The Case Study Of Vanitas Season 2 Review

In a world where vampires don’t shine but are just as lustful, The Case Study Of Vanitas Season 2 promises just as much if not more bedlam than the first season. Let’s check out the latest season of the show in this review!

The Case Study Of Vanitas Season 2 Overview

The Case Study of Vanitas , or Vanitas no Carte in original Japanese, is a supernatural, historical, and vampire show based upon a manga written by Jun Mochizuki. It follows the human-vampire duo of Vanitas and Noe as they try to find out the perpetrator behind the recent impurity in the vampires’ hearts. This season is also called Vanitas no Carte Season 2 , The Case Study of Vanitas Part 2 , and Vanitas no Carte Part 2 .

This season of Vanitas was brought to the medium of anime by Studio Bones, a giant behind classic anime shows such as Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood and My Hero Academia . The season is being directed by Tomoyuki Itamura, who also directed part 1 of the show, alongside several shows of the Monogatari series. We covered this series episodically, and you can check out those reviews here for revisiting purposes!

The Case Study Of Vanitas Season 2 Review- The Plot

Chloe The Case Study Of Vanitas Season 2 Episode 3

Watching the second season of Vanitas was an exercise in frustration for a variety of reasons, the most annoying of them being just how much potential was wasted. While the first season was in no way perfect, it set up an extremely interesting world with a variety of dynamic characters and even better relationships. All the second season, or part, had to do was continue doing just that, and it was going to be great. It did do some of that, and the latter half of the show was extremely engaging television, but the former half went a bit awry.

That particular half told the tale of the Beast of Gevaudan, and it was the most befuddling and confounding piece of storytelling to ever come out of this show. Not only was it horribly paced, but it felt wholly unnecessary for the story the show set out to tell. It felt like a filler arc in a show that had caught up to the manga and was just trying to pass the time until there was more canon to cover. It did not benefit any character involved in it and acted as a stopgap to the more interesting part of the show.

Noe vs Vanitas The Case Study Of Vanitas Season 2 Episode 11

While the stories of Chloe, Jean-Jacques, and Astolfo were fine ones to tell, they were too convoluted and paced sluggishly across 8 glacial episodes. Vanitas and Noe didn’t feel as involved as they should have, and even Jeanne, who should have played a much more important role, didn’t get her moment in the sun. The arc also failed to answer any questions the viewers already had and only raised new ones that will take a good while to be answered. All the different factions coming together in this arc and the sheer number of characters involved in it also felt like a cluster instead of what the show was going for.

On the other hand, the second arc, which sadly lasted way shorter than the first, was exceptionally entertaining and the best the show has ever done. It went into Vanitas’ past for the first time, and the wait was worth it. It was every bit as emotional and devastating as most people imagined it to be and introduced one of the best characters in the show so far. The action and comedy here were on point, and it made use of the unique and fantastic dynamic between Vanitas and Noe perfectly to deliver a masterclass of a finale. The inconsistency was real in Vanitas Part 2 .

The Case Study Of Vanitas Season 2 Review- The Characters

Jeanne The Case Study Of Vanitas Season 2 Episode 7

This is where the strength of Vanitas lies, and the show did not disappoint on this front. Alongside the characters that we all know and love, the show also introduced several new ones, most of which were solid fundamentally and made sense within the context of the show’s universe. While this may seem the opposite of what was said in the plot section, the problem with those characters lies within their usage and not their existence.

Read More- Arifureta Season 2 Review: New Season, Same Old Garbage

Chloe D’Apchier was a great tragic character, and she and Jean-Jacque formed an interesting dynamic that wasn’t explored very well yet still remained a highlight of the episodes it featured in. Astolfo’s character felt unnecessary in that arc and was yet another participant in an already convoluted and packed to the brim plotline. They still weren’t a bad character and had a unique personality. Some other minor characters like Roland also made their presence felt in the entire season, and their presence, while limited, was highly entertaining.

Misha The Case Study Of Vanitas Season 2 Episode 11

The second arc introduced Misha and the Vampire of the Blue Moon, and they both can stake a claim for the highlight of the entire season. Misha was a wonderfully written and well-designed antagonist that could unfurl Noe and Vanitas’ psyche in a manner no one else could before. The Vampire was a highly anticipated sight and one that was executed wonderfully. Dominique, Noe’s childhood friend, also had some backstory which was well done.

However, the highlight of Vanitas Season 2 and the entire show were Vanitas and Noe, and both of them tore the house down in the latest season. Vanitas was able to switch from serious to comedy within a heartbeat, and Now was the perfect companion to his antics. Them not being together was also a big reason for the Gevaudan arc not being as good, but the latter episodes made up for that with the phenomenal confrontation between the two. Vanitas and Jeanne also make for a great couple, but the romantic situation in this show is weird so let’s leave it at that.

The Case Study Of Vanitas Season 2 Review- Animation and Music

Vanitas x Noe

The show looked and sounded nothing short of amazing throughout the 12 episode runtime of Vanitas Part 2 . Bones is a reputed studio with a huge legacy of fantastic shows, and Vanitas looks like its pedigree. The frames are extraordinarily detailed in some scenes that call for them and animated just enough to get the comedy right in the others. The show gets the balance of the two right and is a treat to your eyes as well as your funny bone.

The music and art style both get the era the show depicts to a tee, and the wonderfully periodic setting comes out looking and sounding pristine. The classical piano songs that the show jazzes up and key-changes sound angelic. The opening and ending themes are also great just like they were in the first season, making a case for The Case Study Of Vanitas Season 2 being as high quality as anything currently on our screens. The show has caught up to the source material, and don’t expect a Vanitas Season 3 anytime soon, no matter how sad that thought is.

The Case Study Of Vanitas Season 2 was a highly entertaining watch that was dampened a little by weak pacing and convoluted plot threads. The ending raised the bar for the show significantly, and the wait for a follow up is going to be depressing.

A second season was announced for the Sasaki and Peeps anime—which adapts the light novels by Buncololi and Kantoku—back in March 2024, and this weekend brought a nice reminder along with it. There’s still no release date for season 2 at the time of this writing, but you can see a delightful new visual below while we wait.

Mirai Minato ( Masamune-kun’s Revenge ) directs the Sasaki and Peeps anime, with Deko Akao ( The Case Study of Vanitas ) on series composition and Saori Nakashiki ( The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated ) handling character designs for the SILVER LINK. production.

Here’s how Yen Press describes the original novels:

Sasaki and Peeps Plot

Even though Sasaki’s droll corporate life is constantly filled with work, it leaves him tired and unfulfilled at the end of every day. In search of some companionship to fill the emptiness in his life, he visits a pet shop on a whim, not realizing he’s about to change his life forever. After settling on an adorable bird and bringing it home…his new roommate reveals that it’s actually an incredible sage from another world who promptly bestows Sasaki with supernatural powers as well as the ability to cross between worlds. All Sasaki wants to do is use these newfound powers to live in peace and comfort, but there are more than a few colorful characters who might get in the way of that…
